Video Visits FAQ

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about video visits.

Who do I contact for technical support?
For help logging in, accessing your patient portal and related issues, please contact your physician’s office.
What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine is also known as telehealth and can take the form of eVisits or video visits. Essentially, it’s a virtual visit with your doctor—clinical care from a distance.
Why should I use telemedicine?
Telemedicine is another way to connect with your doctor–whether their offices are open or closed. Telemedicine has also been instrumental in helping doctors safely screen for COVID-19. Additionally, if you have a vulnerable immune system, limited mobility or if you live in a remote area, you may find it safer or more convenient to visit with your doctor from the comfort of your home. With telemedicine, you can receive clinical care from almost anywhere and there are no extended wait times.
Can I use this telehealth service to see any doctor?
In general, you must be an established patient of the provider you wish to see in order to be eligible for a telehealth visit. If you have not seen the provider within the last 3 years, please contact the physician office you wish to be treated by directly to discuss options that might be available to obtain care.
How is this telehealth solution different from others?
On the PocketPatient app, you have the ability to stream HD video on the back of your mobile device and activate your device’s flashlight. This can help your doctor see and assess your situation more clearly.
Is this telemedicine conferencing solution secure?
PocketPatient’s robust security solution is in compliance with HIPAA’s security requirements.
What if I get dropped from the visit?
To get back in, all you have to do is log into the PocketPatient app or Patient Portal and select your video visit again.
What if I’m going to be late for the call or if I need to cancel/reschedule?
You have 10 minutes to join the call. If you cannot join within that time frame, you will need to contact your physician’s office to make further arrangements.
How long do I have to complete my video visit?
If your video visit goes over 60 minutes it will end. Need more time? Just call your physician’s office. The doctor may initiate another video visit or the practice can help you reschedule.
Do I have to pay for my telemedicine visit?

The PocketPatient app is free to download. Please contact your physician directly to discuss insurance coverage for video visits and any costs or charges that might apply, including co-pays, deductibles, no-show or cancellation fees.

Where do I download the PocketPatient app?
The app is available at the App Store or Google Play for use on your iPhone (iOS12 and above) or Android device (v. 7.0 and above). You will use your patient portal credentials to log in. Please contact your provider’s office directly if you need a patient portal account or login assistance.
Will I need a data connection to use the app?
You will need a data or WiFi connection to download the app and participate in real-time video appointments.
How do I join my video visit?
When your physician is ready, you will receive a text or email notification. Click on the link to log in to the patient portal or PocketPatient app (logins are the same). Once you’re in, select “Appointments” > “Join Video Visit” to meet with your physician.
Will the Video Chat work in Google incognito mode or Firefox Private mode?
No, the video telemedicine service will not work in Incognito Mode or Privacy Mode.
Can I just send my doctor photos for review?
If you are a patient of a dermatology practice, you will have the option to initiate an E-Visit and send your physician photos via the Pocket Patient app. This option is separate from the video telemedicine service and different costs and charges may apply. Please contact your dermatology practice for additional information.
