Getting Set Up for Video Visits

Not sure how to get started with your virtual appointment? Follow these simple steps:

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you have or think you might be having a medical emergency or urgent medical problem, immediately dial 911. The use of telehealth services might not be appropriate for all medical conditions or concerns.

Step 1: Schedule Your Video Visit

Make an appointment with your doctor and provide the requested information, including your phone number, email address and date of birth.

Step 2: Get Access to Your Patient Portal

You’ll need a patient portal login to access your video visit from a web browser or to use APPatient. Please contact your physician’s office for patient portal access or login assistance.

Step 3: Download the APPatient App

Download the APPatient app from the App Store or Google Play for use on your iPhone (iOS12 and above) or Android device (v. 7.0 and above). You do not need a username or password to access video visits on APPatient, but the app must be installed. You will need this login info to access other features on APPatient.

Step 4: Prepare for Your Video Visit

In addition to downloading the app, you will want to complete any instructions from your physician’s office. You may be asked to complete forms or upload information to your patient portal.

Step 5: Join the Video Visit

When your physician is ready, you’ll receive an invitation to join by text or email. You may also receive an APPatient notification.

To join using the APPatient app, select the link received by text or email, enter your last name and date of birth, and select “Join Video Visit” to meet with your physician.

Or log in to the patient portal or APPatient app with your patient portal login information and select “Join Video Visit” under “Appointments” to meet with your physician.

Have questions or need support? Contact your physician’s office.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This telemedicine solution is only for routine or non-urgent matters; if you have a medical emergency, please dial 911.

Dermatology | Virtual Check-In

Video Visits FAQ

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about video visits.

Who do I contact for support?
Please contact your physician’s office for assistance.
Do I need to log in to APPatient or the portal to attend my video visit?
If the app is installed on your phone, you do not have to log in to APPatient to attend your video visit. For your convenience, you only need to enter your last name and date of birth to access video visits on APPatient. You may also log in to APPatient to attend your video visit and use other APPatient features.

What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine can take the form of a video visit, Virtual Check-In, eVisit or phone call. It’s a virtual appointment with your doctor—clinical care from a distance.
Why should I use telemedicine?
Telemedicine is another way to connect with your doctor—whether your physician’s office is open or closed. It has also been instrumental in helping doctors safely screen for COVID-19. Additionally, if you have a vulnerable immune system, limited mobility or if you live in a remote area, you may find it safer or more convenient to visit with your doctor from the comfort of your home. With telemedicine, you can receive clinical care from almost anywhere and there are no extended wait times.
Can I use this telehealth service to see any doctor?
In general, you must be an established patient of the provider you wish to see in order to be eligible for a telehealth visit. If you have not seen the provider within the last 3 years, please contact your physician’s office to discuss options that might be available to obtain care.
How is the APPatient telehealth solution different from others?
On the APPatient app, you have the ability to stream HD video on the back of your mobile device and activate your device’s flashlight. This can help your doctor see and assess your situation.
What security measures are in place for this telemedicine conferencing solution?
While nothing can be totally secure, APPatient video transmissions are encrypted.
What if I get dropped from the video visit?
Simply refresh your screen to rejoin your video visit.
What if I’m going to be late for the call or if I need to cancel/reschedule?
You have 10 minutes to join the call after the scheduled time. If you cannot join within that time frame, you will need to contact your practice to make further arrangements.
How long do I have to complete my video visit?
If your video visit goes over 60 minutes it will end. Need more time? Just call your physician’s office. The doctor may initiate another video visit or the practice can help you reschedule.
Do I have to pay for my telemedicine visit?

The APPatient app is free to download. Please contact your physician directly to discuss insurance coverage for telehealth visits and any costs or charges that may apply, including co-pays, deductibles, no-show or cancellation fees. Data fees from your carrier or ISP provider may apply depending on your plan and usage.

Where do I download the APPatient app?
The APPatient app is available at the App Store or Google Play for use on your iPhone (iOS12 and above) or Android device (v. 7.0 and above).
Will I need a data connection to use the app?
You will need a cellular data or WiFi connection to download the app and participate in real-time video appointments.
How do I join my video visit?
When your physician is ready, you’ll receive an invitation to join by text or email. You may also receive a APPatient notification.

Will the Video Chat work in Google incognito mode or Firefox private mode?
No, the video telemedicine service will not work in incognito mode or private mode.
Can I just send my doctor photos for review?
If you are a dermatology patient, you may have the option to initiate a Virtual Check-In and send your physician photos via the Pocket Patient app. This option is currently available to dermatology patients only and is separate from the real-time video telemedicine service and different costs and charges may apply. Please contact your dermatology practice for additional information.
